The formal name of our association is the St. Louis Flying Club, Inc. The Club was initially incorporated under the laws of the State of Missouri on September 28, 1942. The club's sole and principal objective is for the benefit, education and enjoyment of its members and to allow its 24 members, at a minimum cost, to become proficient pilots. The Club's Cessna C-172M, Piper Arrow IV, and RV-7A are based at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport.

Membership Share Value

The club members equally own the assets of the club, without debt. The asset share value is calculated monthly to represent the value of the club assets at that time. The asset share value is currently at $21,861.16. Fill out the online club application if you are interested in becoming a member.

Dues and Operating Costs

The club dues are $165/month and cover insurance, hangars, personal property tax, GPS database updates, and a fund for future aircraft improvements. The hourly rate (see table above) covers gas, oil, normal maintenance, annual, engine/prop overhaul. When there is a shortage of funds, as assessment will be issued to cover the expenses.

Insurance

The Club carries a $1 million liability/full hull coverage insurance policy for the Club aircraft and the individual club members. There is a $1,000 deductible for non-moving and in motion accidents for the Cessna 172 and RV-7A. There is a $2,500 deductible for non-moving and in motion accidents for the Piper Arrow IV.

The insurance requirements for the Club Aircraft are as follows:

  • Cessna 172 and RV-7A - "Any pilot who is a bonafide member of the flying club maintaining a Light Sport or more advanced pilot certificate and operating under FAA MOSAIC rules who has demonstrated to the Named Insured's appropriately certificated flight instructor, the piloting skill required for the aircraft flown.
  • Piper Arrow IV - "Any pilot who is a bonafide member of the flying club maintaining a Private or more advanced pilot certificate who has demonstrated to the Named Insured's appropriately certificated flight instructor the piloting skill required for the aircraft being flown and who has flown a minimum total time of 100 hours including either 25 hours in single engine aircraft with retractable landing gear and 5 hours in the make and model (Piper Arrow IV); or in lieu of type time and make and model time, 10 hours of dual flight instruction in aircraft of the same make and model being flown including at least 15 takeoffs and landings while accompanied by an appropriately certificated flight instructor."
