Dear Members,

July was a busy month for our club with many members making the trip to Oshkosh. It appears there was some impact from the Canadian wildfires but overall another great event. Kyler Bristow made his first flight into Airventure in the Arrow with a nice touchdown on the orange dot - no pressure there! I am looking forward to hearing from the members that were able to experience Oshkosh this year.

That was one of Kyler’s last flights as a club member. He is moving on to flight instructing as he continues with his plans for a career in aviation. We wish him well and welcome his father Cory back into the club.

  • Alternator - On July 26th, the alternator failed about 8 minutes into Doug Millers flight and he got a low voltage annunciation on the G3X. He returned to KSUS on battery power. When we removed the cowl, we found that the Alternator had ceased and the alternator belt was starting to shed small particles due to the friction heat from rubbing against the fixed alternator pulley. We replaced the alternator and belt and installed a new PG-14684 alternator and 15355 Alternator belt.

  • Carb Heat Door - While installing the new alternator and K&N E-3450 Air Filter, we noticed that the Carb Heat door hinge and actuating arm were getting loose and the door was wearing against air box. Vans had developed a better carb heat door installation and we decided to incorporate it. The final part from Vans should arrive on 10 August and the RV should be back in service the end of 11 August.

  • Oil Change - The oil and filter were changed on July 30. The spark plugs were also cleaned, gapped and rotated.
